Thuy Melissa Dao is a pianist, author, and artistic director of Chopin Salon in Warsaw, a candlelit concert series inspired by the atmosphere of nineteenth-century musical salons. Through music, literature, and the creation of intimate artistic experiences, her work explores the space where beauty, presence, and human connection meet.
Born in Vietnam and based in Poland, she began her musical education at the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Warsaw, one of the oldest music schools in Poland. She later earned a Master of Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa and was a scholarship recipient of the Cleveland Institute of Music. She subsequently completed an MBA at Łazarski University, bringing together artistic and entrepreneurial perspectives that continue to shape her work.
Between 2011 and 2019, she served as Director of United Minds, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to bringing music education and developmental opportunities to visually impaired children in Vietnam. Through concerts, workshops, and educational programs, the project reflected her longstanding belief in the transformative power of music and human connection.
In 2014, she became involved in shaping Chopin Salon, helping transform it into the intimate candlelit concert experience it is today. Inspired by the atmosphere of historic musical salons, she contributed to creating a space rooted in closeness rather than distance, conversation rather than formality, and the spirit in which Chopin's music was first shared. Over the years, the Salon has welcomed thousands of guests from around the world and become one of Warsaw's most distinctive cultural experiences.
Alongside her concert activity, she writes poetry and reflective prose. She is the author of Between Sound and Silence: Portraits of Presence in Chopin Salon, a collection of literary portraits inspired by the artists, listeners, and encounters that emerged through the life of the Salon.
As both performer and host, she invites audiences into experiences where music, story, and atmosphere become part of the same conversation. Whether through a concert, a poem, or a shared moment of listening, her work seeks to create spaces in which people can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and encounter something meaningful.

Biografia
Thuy Melissa Dao jest pianistką, autorką oraz dyrektorką artystyczną Chopin Salon w Warszawie — kameralnego cyklu koncertów przy świecach inspirowanego atmosferą dziewiętnastowiecznych salonów muzycznych. Poprzez muzykę, literaturę i tworzenie intymnych doświadczeń artystycznych jej praca bada przestrzeń, w której spotykają się piękno, obecność i ludzka więź.
Urodzona w Wietnamie i mieszkająca w Polsce, swoją edukację muzyczną rozpoczęła w Zespole Państwowych Szkół Muzycznych im. Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie, jednej z najstarszych szkół muzycznych w kraju. Następnie uzyskała tytuł Master of Piano Performance and Pedagogy na University of Iowa oraz była stypendystką Cleveland Institute of Music. Ukończyła również studia MBA na Uczelni Łazarskiego. W swojej działalności od lat łączy wrażliwość artystyczną z budowaniem projektów, które tworzą przestrzeń dla spotkania ludzi, muzyki i kultury.
W latach 2011–2019 pełniła funkcję dyrektorki United Minds — inicjatywy non-profit wspierającej edukację muzyczną dzieci z niepełnosprawnością wzroku w Wietnamie. Poprzez koncerty, warsztaty i programy edukacyjne projekt odzwierciedlał jej głębokie przekonanie o transformującej sile muzyki i ludzkiego spotkania.
Od 2014 roku współtworzy obecny kształt Chopin Salon, pomagając przekształcić go w kameralne doświadczenie muzyczne, z którego jest dziś znany. Inspirowana atmosferą historycznych salonów muzycznych współtworzy przestrzeń opartą na bliskości zamiast dystansu, rozmowie zamiast formalności oraz duchem, w jakim muzyka Chopina była słuchana po raz pierwszy. Przez lata Salon gościł tysiące słuchaczy z całego świata i stał się jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych kameralnych doświadczeń muzycznych Warszawy.
Równolegle z działalnością koncertową pisze poezję i prozę refleksyjną. Jest autorką książki Between Sound and Silence: Portraits of Presence in Chopin Salon — zbioru literackich portretów inspirowanych artystami, słuchaczami i spotkaniami, które narodziły się wokół życia Salonu.
Jako pianistka i gospodyni wieczorów zaprasza publiczność do doświadczeń, w których muzyka, opowieść i atmosfera stają się częścią tej samej rozmowy. Niezależnie od tego, czy dzieje się to poprzez koncert, tekst czy wspólną chwilę słuchania, jej praca tworzy przestrzenie, w których można zwolnić, głębiej słuchać i spotkać nie tylko muzykę, ale także samego siebie.
